Competition Subaru of Smithtown was honored to host our second-ever Competition Subaru Open Shop Night on Wednesday, January 17th 2024! With delicious empanadas from Empanadas and More located in Nesconset, New York, all of our Long Island friends and #CompetitionSubaruFamily came together to celebrate a night of Subaru comradery! With scrumptious free food, exciting Subaru Open Shop giveaways, a free raffle with THREE winners and crisp refreshments, there wasn't a single empanada or soft drink left! With such a complimentary turnout, we know everyone in attendance, from near like Lake Grove, Miller Place and Kings Park, or from far, like Wading River, Upton, White Plains, or Nassau County, New York, our excited event-goers had equally as much fun as all of our friendly staff did! Our passionate General Manager, James Buzzetta, brought his full fleet of super Subaru vehicles! His rare 1970 Subaru 360, the first Subaru Production Car ever imported into the United States, was one of the many Subaru vehicles showcased safety in our Service shop! Thank you endlessly to Sal's Auto Body, located in St. James, New York, near Smithtown, Ronkonkoma and Sound Beach, New York, for taking wordlessly excellent care of James' stout, rare Subaru! Competition Subaru is eager to witness the anticipated innovations from both Subaru of America well as the international Subaru Corporation. From the brand-new, first-ever eco-friendly Subaru, the Subaru Solterra, to the latest line-up of 2024 vehicles such as the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek, Outback, WRX and more, our friendly staff has been staying connected with all of Subaru's latest information and installments. The Subaru Corporation isn't shying away from their conceptional future in mobility! In late October, Subaru attended the JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW 2023, bringing along two concept models rooted in "Enjoyment and Peace of Mind." Meet Subaru's Air Mobility and Sport Mobility Concept Vehicles! The Subaru Air Mobility Concept The world of aviation, electrification and automotive technologies are constantly advancing. Subaru is fully committed to combining all aspects of technology's most recent innovations to exceed the general public's future expectations for air mobility. This goal of amplifying air-travel is Subaru's " A ir Mobility Revolution". With a goal of a future with "more freedom in mobility", Subaru has unabashedly displayed their concepts and collected designs/data openly at the JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW in late October, 2023. It was unveiled at the JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW 2023 that both aerospace as well as automotive engineers are working together on the Subaru Air Mobility Concept vehicle as well as its flight demonstrations. Exteriorally, this aero-concept from Subaru looks like a "modern" flying car with distinct headlights, taillights and Subaru branding in the middle of the front and rear-end. Its flat outer edges are comprised of strong Subaru propellers. Why Aerospace? Did you know that Subaru is very familiar with aerospace engineering?! Subaru has been building helicopters under contract for Bell since June of 1960. With pre-established roots in the commercial aircraft market, Subaru is one of the best automakers to enter the personal aircraft game. In December of 2022, the Guatemalan Air Force received two Subaru Bell 412EPX helicopters. In July of 2022, the New York Police Department's Aviation Unit purchased two Bell Subaru 412EPX aircrafts, with configuration plans for Search and Research missions. These two helicopters are the ninth Bell product to join the NYPD's rotorcraft fleet! In May of 2023, the Ventura County Sheriff's Department Aviation Unit, based in Camarillo, California, purchased their own new Subaru Bell 412EPX helicopter. Additionally, in October of 2023, the Subaru Corporation announced they were awarded TWO contracts for Subaru Bell 412EPX helicopters for Japan's Nara and Miyazaki governments/prefectures. These helicopters will be utilized for firefighting, emergency medical services, rescue, and information gathering. There are many more stories of many different departments calling upon Subaru and Bell's aero-capabilities! Including the newest aero-contracts signed in October of 2023, the total number of Subaru Bell helicopters simply ordered in Japan's commercial market totals to nine! Will you also call upon the impressive aircraft capabilities from Bell and Subaru? The Subaru Sport Mobility Concept The Subaru Sport Mobility Concept vehicle is an active participant in Subaru's evolution of Subaru's Sport Values. This eco-friendly concept vehicle embodies the pleasure of going anywhere, at any time. This driver-centric, battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) showcases its exciting ability to drive at will and turn the everyday into the extraordinary. On the exterior, Subaru has integrated taut, clean body panels designed to minimize character and surface lines. The result? An innovative, sleek, 3-Dimensional shape that provides a sense of both efficient airflow as well as able-bodied protection. With pronounced fenders, a wide stance, AWD and capabilities of controlling all four wheels at will, you'll never want to leave the driver's seat! To make commanding this concept vehicle even more tantalizing, it is designed with excellent visibility and perceptibility, thanks to its low-seating position. With a package that accomplishes peace of mind and an enjoyable drive, we're itching to climb into its interior! What's Up with the Wait? Subaru wanted to wait to see how the new, exciting Subaru Solterra EV performed before making any additional EV efforts and plans. Neither of these aero-innovations seem prepared for the production line, although Competition Subaru and Subaru of America cannot say for sure! On Tuesday, August 17th, 2023 Competition Subaru of Smithtown had the incredible opportunity to host our Subaru Motorsports Car Show with special guest Bucky Lasek! Vermont Sportscar was in attendance as well and brought their own impressive trailer and rallycross car, the Airslayer! Our passionate General Manager, James, brought a rally car he acquired recently as well! Terry and Yaki, a local Halal food truck, brought scrumptious rice, salad, steak and tofu bowls. With dietary options available for everyone, Terry and Yaki helped make our summertime Motorsports Car Show that more successful! Additionally, Bucky brought and sold 100 signed skateboards for a great cause; a partial donation from all 100 skateboards went towards benefiting Paws of War, a local non-profit dedicated to returning overseas furry-friends back to their brave veteran owners! After saying hello to our Competition Subaru Family, Bucky took a walk around our dealership to check out everyone’s impressive vehicles before we announced our Subaru Motorsports Car Show winner! Congratulations to our winner, Nick, we hope he had an amazing time at our annual event and has enjoyed his official Subaru Igloo Cooler and one of the collectable signed skateboards from Bucky Lasek! Outside of caring for domesticated wildlife and releasing un-domesticated wildlife, some unwell visitors turn into house-mates for life! The Sweetbriar Nature Center is responsible for taking care of found babies, animals and local wildlife and returning them safely and soundly to their preferred nature habitat. If these animals are unfortunately too far-along for freedom, the Sweetbriar Nature Center will be their forever home! Additionally, sometimes the critters that come by don't need to be taken to the Sweetbriar Nature Center! "Not everything that comes into our hospital needs rescuing. As a matter of fact, the majority of wildlife situations that folks encounter can be resolved with little or no intervention at all!...How do you know when to intervene? Always best to make a phone call to a wildlife rescue center to get advice." -Sweetbriar Nature Center It is with great news that when a new friend visits this selfless non-profit organization, the Sweetbriar Nature Center sometimes doesn't have much to do! Varying on what species and what injury (if any) has occurred, periodically, Sweetbriar Nature Center's biggest role in aiding these animals is informing the public on the correct thing(s) to do. It warms our heart knowing that sometimes all the Sweetbriar Nature Center needs to do is safely release the animal back into their preferred habitat. Children, adults and seniors can enjoy viewing these fairy-like creatures up close and carefully! The Discovery Area is open year round. This is an outdoor play-area is for those who would enjoy spending time in Sweetbriar's sandbox, hobbit-house, see-saw, slide, outdoor painting and music station. The Reptile Room is all about slinking, slimy sidekicks! This room is located inside of the Sweetbriar Nature Center and is home to many scaly and slippery friends. From snakes to snapping turtles, this room is full of surprises! At the Sweetbriar Nature Center, the Art Center offers various events, classes and instructionals. Check their available Art Events through their website here. The Rainforest Room is a relaxing, jungle-themed room where curious adults and courageous children can find exploration! The Sweetbriar Photo Club is actively accepting members and is described as "the camera club for everyone"! Founded in 1997 by Ed Sambolin, the Sweetbriar Photo Club meets in-person at Sweetbriar Nature Center and online via Zoom. This welcoming group of casual photography fans has talents ranging in all levels, from beginner to experienced. "Our club enjoys educational activities, guest speakers, occasional weekend field trips, photo critiques and more...We feel that learning from one another is key to advancing our photographic skills." - Sweetbriar Photo Club The Sweetbriar Photo Club is passionate about advancing their photographic skills, sharing experiences, meeting people with similar interests and hobbies and bringing their own vision and opinions into the Photography Club! Competition Subaru of Smithtown had the incredible opportunity to take a tour of the Sweetbriar Nature Center! Thanks to the generosity of the Sweetbriar Nature Center, our employees experienced touring the majestic and historical home of Vail and Edith Blydenburgh, the Sweetbriar Center's grounds, viewing fragile little baby animals, learning about our local environment, were taught where various critters call home, took a tour of the Butterfly Garden before it was open to the public and even got to set a baby rabbit free! The entire day was full of awesomely educational and entertaining events! Competition Subaru of Smithtown was so proud to be an avid supporter and sponsor! This celebration marks their yearly launch of the open-to-the-public Butterfly Vivarium! As the Sweetbriar Nature Center is a non-profit organization, this event is equally as important for its humans as this is one of their biggest fundraising events of the year! Additionally, residents were able to stop by the Sweetbriar Nature Center to see the ALL-ELECTRIC Subaru Solterra up close and in person! Competition Subaru of Smithtown is proud to announce our participation in the Subaru Share The Love Event for another consecutive year! The Subaru Share the Love Event took place between November 17, 2022 and January 3, 2023. Competition Subaru was emblazoned to support such incredible local charities: the Stony Brook Children's Hospital and Paws of War. Competition Subaru and Subaru of America are proud to announce our support for four national charities: ASPCA, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Meals On Wheels and the National Park Foundation. We are equally as excited to support all of these incredible charities and make Long Island, New York an even more magical place to live! Stony Brook Children's Hospital Competition Subaru of Smithtown is honored to support the Stony Brook Children's Hospital located near Saint James, Nesconset and Centereach, New York! Stony Brook Children's Hospital is one of the most advanced pediatric care facilities in the Northeastern region of the United States. Stony Brook Children's Hospital has more than 180 pediatric specialists and physicians available in 30 pediatric specialties. The talented staff are extremely skilled and prepared for routine assessments, complex medical interventions, pediatric traumas, ill children and other unfortunate and scary circumstances. For the year of 2023, the donations raised for the Stony Brook Children's Hospital were doubled from a generous anonymous donor! This philanthropic hero is affiliated with the hospital but does not want to be named. This secret donor is simply giving Stony Brook Hospital a grander chance at helping little ones in need. The donations that were doubled for Stony Brook Hospital will be going towards a brand new Children's Emergency Room! Paws of War Competition Subaru of Smithtown is also eager and honored to support Paws of War, a local animal shelter that places dogs into mainly military homes to provide independence and love for our United States Military Veterans. Paws of War is constantly working hard to find furry-friends their forever home with someone very, very special! The majority of dogs that are up for adoption through Paws of War actually do not hail from Long Island, New York. These passionate, friendly pups are rescued from overseas and are brought back to Saint James, New York to find a new life full of love, safety and compassion. It is our absolute honor to announce that Competition Subaru of Smithtown and Subaru of America have raised $15,804 for Paws of War! It is truly a blessing to continue to support such a wonderful non-profit charity. As we welcome a new year, Competition Subaru of Smithtown is looking forward to another year full of incredible community events! Our #SubieCommunity and #CompetitionSubaruFamily are full of the most amazing and considerate members. We take immense pride in aiding our local businesses, non-profit organizations and charities. For February, join Subaru and Competition Subaru of Smithtown as we partake in one of Subaru’s Love Promises: Subaru Loves to Help. We are so lucky to be a part of something so special! Historically, Subaru and its retailers (like us!) aid those in need across genres and genus every single year. In 2020, Subaru and its retailers provided 50,000 warm blankets to homeless shelters. For 2021, we announce with great pleasure that the number of donations doubled. The Subaru Loves to Care initiative collected and donated 100,000 cozy blankets as well as 50,000 pairs of socks nationwide! Personally, Competition Subaru has worked with the Suffolk County Department of Social Services for the Subaru Loves to Care initiative during the year of 2020. During November of 2021, Competition Subaru teamed up with the Pax Christi Hospitality Center through Hope House Ministries. From everyone at Competition Subaru of Smithtown, we are so excited to begin working with this Long Island emergency center again for February of 2023! What is the Pax Christi Hospitality Center? The Pax Christi Hospitality Center is one of the various campaigns and housing services being offered by the Hope House Ministries non-profit organization. The Pax Christi Hospitality Center has been helping Long Islanders for over 40 years and is a compassionate, temporary residence. This 25-bed emergency center is specifically for men over 16 who are struggling with homelessness. These civilians will find solace, safety, food and shelter, and aid in their crises. The Pax Christi Hospitality Center also offers services, advocacy and networking. This emergency shelter can handle crisis situations such as: Homelessness Addiction Juvenile Delinquency High School Dropouts Teen Pregnancy Evictions Domestic Violence Sexual Abuse Both Hope House Ministries and the Pax Christi Hospitality Center offer additional services for those in need. Such services include: Case Management Drug and Alcohol Counseling Mental Health Counseling Linkages to Benefits and Resources in the Community How can you help? Last year, Competition Subaru of Smithtown collected toiletries for the Pax Christi Hospitality Center. These products made a substantially positive impact throughout the emergency center for its residents. For the year of 2023, Competition Subaru of Smithtown is humbly accepting: Socks Blankets Toiletries We appreciate and thank all of those who are able to join us in the #SubaruLovestoHelp promise this year! We are so excited to create an even bigger impact with even more donations! If donations are not in the realm of possibility, please feel no pressure. Competition Subaru of Smithtown is honored to aid the Long Island Community for the wonderful holiday season of 2022! We are proud to support both Angels of Long Island and EJ’s PJs Pajama Drive for the second year in a row! For the year of 2022, we will be humbly accepting donations until December 14th for Angels of Long Island and December 19th for EJ’S PJS! Angels of Long Island is a non-profit organization offering a large range of goods and services to the local Long Island Community in crisis. Their mission is to assist and advocate for Long Islanders who are unfortunately struggling during these frustrating economic times. If you have the means to aid us in helping give the gift of the holidays, we are infinitely grateful! Additionally, we humbly request that you do not wrap these donations, although we appreciate such heart-warming consideration! Competition Subaru is humbly requesting new: Toys Sports Equipment Books Puzzles Gift Cards for children aged from infancy to 2 years old! These collections will be on behalf of Angels of Long Island. EJ'S PJS was founded in 2011 with Patricia Poggi and her three sons, Edward, Jeremy and Patrick! Their incredible yearly donation drive began as a way to extend consideration for others during the holidays instead of simply focusing on material goods! For the year of 2021, EJ'S PJS hosted a Breakfast & Pictures With Santa Pajama Party! Their goal was to collect 1,000 pairs of pajamas to donate, however, they were able to surpass their goal and collect 1,167 pairs of pajamas! It is incredible to aid such amazing organizations and support their mission statements! For EJ’S PJs for 2022, we humbly ask for new pajamas, preferably for children aged from infant to 2 years old.
