The 2023 Outback Wilderness is built around the time- and trail-tested capability of standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, which features a balanced design to create uniform stability and deliver an optimal distribution of power for maximum traction in virtually any weather, road, or trail condition.
9.5 Inches of Ground Clearance with Front Skid Plate, Improved Angles, and Enhanced X-MODE®
With an elevated ground clearance of 9.5 inches and a standard front skid plate, you can take the Outback Wilderness into rougher terrain. The front and rear bumpers have been designed for improved approach and departure angles so you can easily clear larger obstacles. The dual-function X-MODE has also been upgraded and re-tuned, with settings for deep snow, sand, and mud that allow additional wheel slip to power through adverse conditions.
Off-Road Wheels with All-Terrain Tires and Full-Size Spare
Standard 17-inch matte-black alloy off-road wheels and all-terrain Yokohama GEOLANDAR® tires provide improved performance in even the toughest trail conditions. A full-size spare is hidden below the cargo area for extra peace of mind when you’re out on the trail.
Standard Direct-Injection Turbocharged SUBARU BOXER® Engine and Re-Tuned Gearing
Outback Wilderness features a standard 260-horsepower direct-injection turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine that delivers 277 pound-feet of torque and 3,500 pounds of towing capacity1. The drivetrain features re-tuned gearing with revised front and rear gear ratios for improved low-speed climbing – up to a 40% grade.

The daring Outback Wilderness exterior is eye-catching at any altitude with its available Geyser Blue paint – exclusive to Wilderness family vehicles. It features a design philosophy that’s both functional and dynamic, with protective cladding, blacked-out trim, and matte-black finish wheels set off by unique Anodized Copper-finish accents.
Reinforced Roof Rails
The reinforced roof rails are set off with Anodized Copper-finish accents and are able to support the weight of a rooftop tent2 so you can quickly turn the Outback Wilderness into your comfortable expedition basecamp.

The Outback Wilderness makes picking out your path a little easier, with a unique matte-black hood decal to help reduce glare out on the trail.
