2022 Subaru Forester vs. 2022 Nissan Rogue
Subaru and Nissan are two of the most popular car manufacturers in the United States. They both produce various vehicles, from sedans to minivans and everything in between. But if you’re looking for an affordable compact crossover SUV with all-wheel drive capability, which one should you go for?
If you’re looking for a small AWD crossover that can be used as a daily driver and take you off-road, the 2022 Subaru Forester is one of the best options on the market. It’s got a stout engine and transmission, and its “X-Mode” gives it extra traction when needed. It’s also spacious enough to fit five people, making it great for families comfortably. However, if you’re looking for something more luxurious with better safety features, consider getting the new 2022 Nissan Rogue instead!
Let’s take a look at their specs and find out.
Design & Style
- Exterior Design
The exterior design of these vehicles is very similar, with the Subaru Forester having a slightly more rounded look and the Rogue having a much more angular look. However, the front fascia of both vehicles is quite similar to each other and their grille designs. The hoods of these SUVs are also largely identical in appearance (with minor differences).
The rooflines of these two cars are also highly similar, with only small differences here and there. One difference you will notice is that the Rogue has a slightly higher roofline than the Subaru Forester does–this makes sense since its two-row seating configuration allows for extra headroom in its second-row seats. In addition to this higher roofline, another notable difference between these two vehicles’ exteriors is their blacked-out window trim on both models: while it’s not super noticeable on either vehicle when it’s running down an interstate highway at 70 miles per hour (thanks to glare from other cars), if you’re paying attention to your surroundings as you drive along local roads or around town at slower speeds then this feature stands out more on Nissan’s model -and we think that looks great!
- Interior Design
The Subaru Forester’s interior is mostly straightforward and basic, with not much in the way of eye candy or fancy technology—it’s just a bunch of buttons and knobs that get things done. The dashboard comprises solid black plastic panels on top and grey ones underneath; there are small vents at the bottom edge where the air comes out when you turn on your AC or heat system. The rest of the dash has controls, from A/C to cruise control to manual window switches (or push buttons if your car has them). You also get seat controls for manually adjusting how high up or low down your seat goes, along with other minor controls like door lockers for when someone pulls open their door while driving down a dark road at night without lights turned off! You’ll also see an audio display screen where you can change audio tracks by pressing the play/pause buttons above each song title listed.
Technology & Safety
The Subaru Forester is a great choice if you’re looking for a crossover that doesn’t sacrifice technology. It comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which allows you to mirror your smartphone onto the screen so that you can use apps like Spotify or Google Maps while driving. The Rogue falls short of this mark, only allowing Apple CarPlay on its highest trim level.
The Rogue offers an optional safety feature called ProPILOT Assist that helps maintain lane control while driving on highways at speeds up to 75 mph (120 kph). The Forester doesn’t offer any autonomous driving features beyond what is required by law.
Performance
The 2022 Subaru Forester comes with a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. The 2022 Nissan Rogue comes with a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with 168 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, slightly more powerful than the Subaru’s engine.
The Bottom Line
The Subaru Outback is the clear victor regarding the overall driving experience. Its stiffer suspension, sharper steering, and more responsive handling make it a much more engaging car to drive than competitors.
