2022 Subaru Forester vs. 2022 Kia Sorento
The 2022 Kia Sorento is a pleasant sport utility vehicle with diverse powertrains, a comfortable interior and serene driving experience. How does it compare to the Subaru Forester, an SUV with outstanding value, passenger space, efficiency and performance?
Design & Style
The Subaru Forester uses a dual box frame which is moderately sized. It has large windows and a sunroof which results in outstanding outward vision. LED lights can be seen in front with air intakes that are slightly pronounced, and within the cabin passengers will be treated to relaxing cloth seats with the option to upgrade to leather if they so choose. The interior can also be decked out in flashy colors such as orange with black trim
The Kia Sorento is a crossover which is medium in size. It has a rectangular silhouette in the exterior with a cabin that is classy where passengers will be presented with digital interfaces. It offers three row seating and overall its proportions are bolder and boxier than previous editions which were curvy. The engineers at Kia have also thrown in a hybrid based powertrain.
Technology & Safety
The Kia Sorento is rich in driver assistance gear, which includes automatic emergency brakes, frontal impact warnings, and notifications when departing lanes, blind area monitoring and alerts for cross traffic in back. Luxuries within its cabin include an eight inch touch display, Bose audio system with twelve speakers and a charging wireless pad. Passengers will also be treated to ambient lights which are integrated and multiple drive modes.
The Subaru Forester received a perfect 5 star safety rating from the NHTSA, with the Top Safety Pick award courtesy of the IIHS. It is equipped with every feature found in the Sorento including lane and cruise control, blind area monitoring and automated emergency brakes. Perks within its cabin include climate control, heated seats, the choice of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and an audio system from Harmon Kardon.
Performance
The Subaru Forester is equipped with a flat 4, 2.5 liter engine that can generate 182 horsepower. The Kia Sorento comes with an inline 4, 2.5 liter engine that can generate 191 horsepower, which is wedded to an automatic nine speed transmission. The Sorento is also eco-friendly and like the Forester offers a hybrid option.
The Bottom Line
While the Kia Sorento is a decent SUV, its third row is not suitable for adults, its touchscreens are not compatible with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, and the cargo area in back is too small. This combined with the Forester’s superior safety credentials makes Subaru the winner.
