How To Adjust Subaru Steering Wheel

If you are a new owner of a Subaru car, you may be wondering how you can adjust the steering wheel. There are three aspects to this: auto, parking lights and headlights. In this guide, we give you step-by-step instructions on how you can adjust your Subaru steering wheel.

Before Making Any Adjustments

It’s important that your car is not running when you make any adjustments to the steering wheel. Failing to do so can be dangerous and result in loss of vehicle control, and you should never attempt to adjust your steering wheel when you are on the road.

Adjusting the Height of Your Steering Wheel

If you would like the height of your steering wheel to be higher or lower, the first thing to do is locate the lever underneath it. All you need to do is pull it down and you will be able to raise or lower the height of your steering wheel to suit your needs. Once you have adjusted it to your desired height, flip the lever back up to lock your steering wheel in place. You will find that you can no longer move the steering wheel up or down when the lever is in an upwards position – always make sure of this before resuming driving.

Importance of Having the Right Steering Wheel Height

Never underestimate the importance of having your steering wheel at the right height. Below are some factors you need to take into consideration when determining if your steering wheel is too high or too low:

  • Are you tensing your shoulders and/or back?
  • Can you be seated in a comfortable position with your hands on the wheel?
  • Is the steering wheel blocking your view of the dashboard and all its warning lights and indicators?
  • Is the steering wheel pointed towards your chest or your head? As a general rule, it should be pointed about 10 inches away from your chest. This position ensures that in the event of an emergency, your airbag can provide you with maximum protection and prevent the occurrence of serious injury.

Sometimes, it can be the case that a steering wheel position that seems right when stationary doesn’t work out once you are on the road. In such cases, it’s important never to attempt adjusting it while on the move. If necessary, pull over to a safe spot and readjust before getting back on the road.
