2022 Subaru Ascent vs. 2022 Mazda CX-9
The 2022 Subaru Ascent is a new seven-seat SUV from Subaru, which hasn’t been seen in the brand’s past models. The vehicle may be a little underpowered, but it has some great features you would expect from Subaru. However, if you’re looking for something similar with more power and less money spent on gas, we suggest you take a look at the 2022 Mazda CX-9.
We’ll be taking an in-depth look at both of these vehicles to see which one comes out on top! We’ll provide all the information you need to know about each model so that you can make an informed decision when it comes time to buy a new car. So let’s get started!
Design & Style
- Exterior Design
The Ascent is a bit of a stunner. It’s got bold lines that make it stand out from the other SUVs in its class, and with its larger size comes more room to work with. The CX-9 is not unattractive but seems to blend in with the other vehicles on the road. The Ascent has unique styling that makes it feel like you’re driving an SUV, whereas the CX-9 looks like any other mid-size crossover SUV you might see parked in your local parking garage. The Ascent has more space inside and extra storage compartments throughout its cabin, whereas all that variety and spacial flexibility doesn’t exist on the Mazda at all (unless you get one with infotainment).
- Interior Design
The Subaru Ascent’s interior is spacious, with plenty of room in front and rear. The center console is wide and deep, which makes it easy to keep all your stuff organized. The center armrest has multiple storage compartments that can hold phones, wallets and pens (or whatever else you want handy).
While the Mazda CX-9 doesn’t have much legroom as the Ascent, it still offers plenty of space for passengers in both rows of seats. The front row has more than enough room for adults to sit comfortably while providing ample headroom and legroom under the front seats. Adults will find ample shoulder space in both rows as well.
The second row has an excellent amount of knee-to-floor clearance thanks to its tall roofline; adults won’t be cramped or uncomfortable when sitting in the back here at all! However, there isn’t much room between either door opening and the side window: if you’re tall enough that your head rubs against something when getting into this seat (as many adults are), then you may end up with a sore neck from constantly moving it around while driving—especially during long trips where fatigue sets in.
Technology & Safety
The 2022 Subaru Ascent offers a standard rear-view camera with dynamic guidelines, while the 2022 Mazda CX-9 has a standard backup camera.
Both the 2022 Subaru Ascent and the 2022 Mazda CX-9 have an optional blind spot monitor to allow you to see vehicles in your blind spots as well as exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals. The 2022 Subaru Ascent doesn’t offer this feature, but it’s available on all models of the 2022 Mazda CX-9.
Performance
The 2022 Subaru Ascent comes with a 2.4-litre boxer engine that can produce up to 260 horsepower and 174 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2021 Mazda CX-9, on the other hand, comes with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that can make up to 310 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. of torque.
The Bottom Line
Overall, the 2022 Subaru Ascent is better than the 2022 Mazda CX-9. It’s cheaper; it has a better standard engine and a more spacious interior. It also gets better fuel economy and has more appealing styling. While the CX-9 has some unique features and offers impressive performance for its class, more is needed to overcome its other limitations.
