2020 Subaru Forester vs. 2019 Mazda CX-5

Coming with a standard rear seat reminder, and an available lane centering system, there is indeed plenty of promises made by the 2020 Subaru Forester. It has spacious seats inside, ready to accommodate five adults as well. It is also praised for a promising fuel economy.

The 2019 Mazda CX-5, on the other hand, offers more engine variations when compared to its previous versions. Some technologies in this car are optional though.

Design & Style

Carrying a masculine appeal on the outside, the 2020 Subaru Forester never fails to impress even on the inside. It has a spacious cargo area, apart from having generous seats for its passengers. Wide-opening rear doors make entering and exiting the car a whole lot easier. It has plenty of legroom at the back too. There is a supple leather upholstery for higher trims in this ride as well.

Offering sophisticated styling, the 2019 Mazda CX-5 also boasts of a great interior. The standard leather-wrapped steering wheel is also good to look at. Cargo space is a bit limited for this SUV though, putting it some notches behind the Forester.

Technology & Safety

Subaru Forester is equipped with simple technology features that make its Starling infotainment interface user-friendly. It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so that you can effortlessly connect your smartphone to the system. It has a satellite radio, four-speaker stereo, HD radio, two USB ports, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen that carries all these functions. Standard safety features for the ride include the rear seat reminder and a rearview camera. It also has the standard EyeSight Driver Assist Technology which contains driver aids like adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, pre-collision throttle management, lane departure and sway warning, lead vehicle start alert, and lane departure prevention.

In the case of the Mazda CX-5, there is a seven-inch touchscreen doing the work for its standard infotainment system. Voice command, four-speaker audio, Bluetooth, and HD radio are also standard. It is sad to note that it does not offer smartphone integration, though. It comes equipped with blind spot monitoring, low-speed automatic braking, and rear cross traffic alert, apart from its rearview camera for safety.

Performance

The Forester hits 182 horsepower for its four-cylinder engine setup. It garners scores of 26mpg for city driving and 33mpg on the highway.  In the case of the Mazda CX-5, it has a base four-cylinder, 2.5-liter engine providing power for 187 horses. The CX-5 records only up to 25mpg for city driving and 31mpg for highway driving.

The Bottom Line

The fuel-efficient engine in the Subaru Forester is one thing that makes it a winner over the CX-5. Consider its long list of technology and safety features, and you will love it even more. Do not forget how it has been equipped with a great design and style too.
